In Pirkei Avos Misha 2:15 it says that the day is short and the work is much, the workers are lazy , the reward is great and the master is pressing...
The workers being lazy should have been mentioned last. Even though the pay is good and time is short and the master is watching and wants more producion the workers are lazy.
Usually workers are lazy for one of two things; either the pay is bad or the boss isn't watching. Rabbi Tarfon is telling us here both reasons don't apply. There is a lot to be done in a short period of time and the workers are lazy even though the pay is good and even though the master is observing and pushing for more by puishing non-performance of Torah and Mitzvos.
